Bon appétit! Tony winner Jessie Mueller will don her apron and take the stage on March 25 as Sara Bareilles' Waitress begins performances at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. The Diane Paulus-helmed musical officially opens on April 24.
The production has already made history for its all-female creative team and marks five-time Grammy nominee Bareilles' stage-writing debut. Based on the 2007 film by the late Adrienne Shelly and book by Jessie Nelson, the tuner follows Jenna, a small town waitress stuck in a loveless marriage. As a nearby baking contest approaches (and a new doctor comes to town), she’s torn between her commitments and—thanks to her pie-making expertise—a chance at freedom.
The cast also includes Tony nominee Nick Cordero, Drew Gehling, Keala Settle, Dakin Matthews, Eric Anderson, Christopher Fitzgerald, Kimiko Glenn, Thay Floyd, Molly Hager, Aisha Jackson, Ragan Pharris and Ryan Vasquez.
Waitress premiered at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts last August. Whether fans were able to catch the show's first incarnation or not, they're ready to dig in as the tuner makes its Broadway bow.
